On July 24, 1847, Brigham Young and a party of 148 Mormon pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley to end a 1,500 mile journey west. As the story goes, Brigham Young proclaimed, \"This is the place\", and the pioneers set up within the valley. Within a few years the Salt Lake Valley became a major center for trade and commerce as wagon trains carried settlers and miners westward. On January 6,1851, Salt Lake City became the capitol and the county seat. The State of Utah was admitted to the Union on January 4, 1896. Salt Lake County is now a large metropolitan area covering 764 square miles and bordered on each side by beautiful mountains, the Wasatch mountains to the east and the Oquirrh mountains to the west. Salt Lake County enjoys four full seasons with temperatures in January ranging from lows in the 30's to highs in the 60's, while in July you'll typically find temperatures from lows in the 50's to highs in the 90's...
